It is the first book that King Sejong created Hangul.

Before the Republic of Korea, there was a country called Joseon.

    King Sejong

King Sejong, the king of Joseon, made Hangul.

Hangeul was developed by King Sejong in consideration of ordinary people of Joseon who did not know the letters.

Before Hangeul was developed, They borrowed and used Chinese characters.

Chinese characters were made in China.

In the old days, people communicated with each other by expressing the behavior and characteristics of an object in pictures. The painting was developed into Chinese characters over thousands of years.

So every Chinese character has its own meaning.

However, the disadvantage of Chinese characters was that each character had a different meaning, so it was difficult to memorize them because there were too many Chinese characters.

It was a letter that could be learned only by the aristocracy in the Joseon Dynasty, and it was difficult for ordinary people to easily access at that time.

At that time, most of the labor was carried out mainly by ordinary people. So busy ordinary people did not have time to learn Chinese characters.

In fact, aristocrats also needed years or decades of training to learn Chinese characters.

Hangeul is a letter that King Sejong created after a person's mouth.

In other words, the letters were made according to the shape of the mouth and were developed so that they could be written down according to the sound of the mouth.

In other words, each letter has no meaning.

The meaning is determined by how it is combined.

Therefore, Hangul is called the letter of sound, and Chinese characters are called the letter of meaning.

Hangeul does not have a meaning like Chinese characters, but it has the advantage of being easy to learn, so everyone can learn it quickly, regardless of age or gender.

In fact, Hangul is registered as one of the most easy-to-learn letters in the world.

King Sejong created Hangul in consideration of his people with high illiteracy rate, but the situation was not easy at the time.

At that time, the aristocrats who used Chinese characters opposed the creation of Hangeul for the following reasons:

    1. Creating Hangeul is an act that defies China, which is no different from a brother.

    2. There is no word in this world that has such a deep meaning as Chinese characters. Because it is a noble character, no other character should be developed.

    3. When people know writing, knowledge builds up, and when knowledge builds up, they want to use wisdom. Then society will be confused and the nation will not be able to handle this.

    4. It is a combination of yangban and people. It is the letters that enable this balance. Hangul will destroy this harmony.

King Sejong countered these aristocrats' opinions as 'the vested interests of both classes' and pushed ahead with the development of Hangeul.

Jiphyeonjeon  where King Sejong gathered scholars and developed Hangul

Many things happened in the process of making Hangul.

There are tens of millions of Hangul-themed books in the world.

So I will let you know about another story later.

    It is inside Gyeongbokgung Palace.
