It is also the only pure Gothic building in Korea.

In 1784, Catholicism of Joseon was established by the gathering of Kim Bum-woo, Lee Seung-hoon, Jeong Yak-jeon and Kwon Il-shin.

1882 US-Joseon

When the Korea-U.S. Treaty of Protection was signed in 1882, some of the land in Myeong-dong was purchased by Bishop Blanc, who was then the head of the diocese.

 

 

There was a place to raise the souls of Joseon kings.

However, the construction of the cathedral was not as easy as expected because it was close to Yeonghuijeon, which was the ancestral tablets of kings of the Joseon Dynasty, but it was completed in 1898.

 

 

Myeong-dong Cathedral is about 68m long, 29m wide, 23m high, and the height of the bell tower is about 47m, with a building area of 427 pyeong.

 

 

On the left and right sides of the bell tower, a small octagonal tower is connected to a two-story corridor, and the outer wall has an auxiliary wall at equal intervals, and the upper part of the transcept is equipped with an orthogonal sub-top of both ends of the outer wall.

 

 

 

the stained glass was originally made in a medieval style at a monastery in France, which was repaired to its original form in 1981.

 

 

 

Myeong-dong Cathedral, which is now a place

 

where many people visit to take pictures, is also highly valued for its historical value.
